Northumberland electronics manufacturer turns to Newcastle for ‘pivotal’ acquisition

Northumberland manufacturer Hindley Circuits has announced its second acquisition of 2018.

The Cramlington-based provider of printed circuit board (PCB) assembly services paid an undisclosed sum for Irridian Industrial Electronics, an electronic product design and repair business in Newcastle.

Irridian operates from premises on Camperdown Industrial Estate and employs a team of five electronic engineers.

Hindley, which this year marks its second year of trading, said the acquisition is part of a wider plan to achieve a turnover of £10m within its first five years.

In its first full 12-month financial report, the firm recorded a turnover of around £2.5m.

Earlier this year, Hindley snapped up Blyth-based Magnum Electronics, with founder Steve Crosby becoming Hindley’s engineering manager.

Richard Whitehead, CEO of Hindley Circuits, said: “We are delighted to have achieved so much in the firm’s short time.

“The acquisition will be pivotal in allowing Hindley to offer new product development and PCB layout services through Irridian to add significant value to our customers.”

Hindley Circuits was formed through the purchase of the assets of Opsol UK when parent company A-Belco went into administration.

A group of private investors led by Andrew Lapping, of Hamilton Portfolio, came together to form Hindley.

Andrew commented: “The progress made by the team at Hindley has been very encouraging in such a short period and we are only really at the start of this transformation.

“Having seen the achievements to date, we are looking forward to continuing to make progression and be recognised as one of the region’s leading firms.”

In October last year, Hindley announced a £300k growth investment in new technology.
