The Brink shows support for recovery fundraiser

The Brink has welcomed supporters to its Parr Street site to wave off twenty-four-year-old Jack Chitty, before he embarked on the first leg of a bike ride to raise vital funds for its parent charity Action on Addiction.

Ahead of the 250-mile journey from Liverpool to Wiltshire, Liverpool’s only dry-bar welcomed Jack’s friends and family to the venue, with Manager Carl Bell and his team supporting the venture with a send-off ahead of the sponsored cycling trip.

Manager of The Brink Carl Bell said: “We are all incredibly proud of Jack, who first contacted Action on Addiction because of his own experiences. Through hard work and determination, we are delighted that he has made the selfless decision to partake in the fundraising journey. By offering our full support ahead of the charity bike-ride - which saw him take to the pedals for the first time after losing an incredible 11 stone since his recovery – we hope that we can raise awareness to drive further sponsorship.

“Here at The Brink, we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to overcome addiction and we work tirelessly with our local community to ensure that those who need support have access to it, whether it is through our weekly activities, wellbeing groups or simply by engaging with others in a safe and inclusive environment. As part of Action on Addiction, it seemed only fitting that Jack would start his ride here surrounded by friends, family and members of our team who have all been inspired by his recovery journey.”

Jack’s addiction led to severe health problems with doctors giving him just six months to live. After seeking help through Action on Addiction, he was able to turn his life around and has raised over £16,000 with total target of £25,000.

Relationship Manager at Action on Addiction Ellen Lamer said: “As Action on Addiction’s flagship social enterprise, it has been great to work alongside The Brink in sharing Jack’s story, culminating in a journey across the country from Liverpool down to Clouds House in Wiltshire and beyond.

“The work that Jack has done since his recovery is phenomenal and will allow us as a charity to continue to offer support individuals and families through residential treatment or community-based treatment such as that offered in Liverpool.”
