P&O Ferries to lift Teesport capacity for Scotland gateway
Today (May 14), P&O Ferries has announced that it plans to lift capacity on its Zeebrugge-Teesport route by almost 25 per cent within the next month.
This is in order to create a gateway to Scotland via the North-Eastern port. The integrated ferry and logistics company currently carries more than 100,000 freight units per year to Teesport from its continental hub at Zeebrugge.
The 12 sailings a week service is provided by the 25,000 ton Bore Song and the 10,000 ton Mistral.
Janette Bell, chief executive of P&O Ferries, said: “The most reliable way for exporters to or from Scotland to transport their goods is via Teesport.
“The 15 hour sailing is more cost efficient than more northerly routes and by integrating our timetable with PD Ports’ new rail service to Scotland we can guarantee customers an unrivalled service to and from northern Britain.”
Customers could benefit from P&O Ferries’ plans to increase the capacity of its ships combined with the introduction by PD Ports of a new rail service to Mossend in Scotland.
The timetable of both services will be fully integrated so that freight can be moved from one to the other with minimal delay.

“PD Ports has extensive rail capacity with direct intermodal links across the UK and with a new, second planned daily service to Scotland imminent, we will shortly see further opportunities for cargo movements to and from Scotland.”
P&O Ferries is a leading pan-European ferry and logistics company, sailing 27,000 times a year on eight major routes between Britain, France, Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland, Holland and Belgium.
It operates more than 20 vessels which carry 8.4 million passengers and 2.3 million freight units annually.
