Barnet children given chance to win free bikes ahead of Bike to School Week
The Broadwalk Centre in Edgware is launching a special competition to encourage youngsters to bike to school by winning a brand new bike.
Running throughout the month of May, in advance of Bike to School Week the following month, the community shopping centre is giving away four brand new bikes - two for primary school pupils and two for older students in secondary education.
The competition - part of the shopping centre’s ‘Love Your World’ campaign - takes the government’s Air Quality Action Place 2017 - 2022 into consideration. With around 95,000 children living in the London Borough of Barnet, cycling to school could drastically cut air pollution and road congestion.
To enter the competition, shoppers need to pick up one of The Broadwalk’s ‘Bike to School’ loyalty cards and spend £40 at any of the shopping centre’s stores between Saturday 5th and Sunday 27th May 2018. For every £10 spent, shoppers will receive a stamp on their card and, once completed, can pop it in the competition post box on the mall to enter the prize draw.
Angela Brooks, Centre Manager at The Broadwalk Centre, commented: “With emission and global warming reports hitting the headlines on an all too frequent basis, we recognise just how important reducing our carbon footprint is in today’s society. Reports suggest that just 2-3% of UK children cycle to school, compared to nearly 50% of Dutch school children. The launch of our Bike to School competition is therefore just one of the many ways we are trying to help the community within our ongoing ‘Love Your World’ campaign and I hope that everyone takes the time to enter to win one of our four amazing prizes.”
The Broadwalk Centre’s Bike to School competition will launch on Saturday 5th May when promotional staff will be on hand at the shopping centre to hand out loyalty cards and other cycle-related freebies to shoppers.
