Blackburn-based touch display firm acquired by US company for £1.3m

A tech company in Lancashire has been acquired by a US firm for £1.3m.

Blackburn-based Cohuba, which develops interactive touch display technology for businesses, government and the education sector, is now part of Georgia-headquartered Boxlight Corporation.

The deal will give Cohuba’s customers access to collaborative learning, assessment and STEM applications from Boxlight, including its MimioStudioTM classroom software.

Cohuba CEO Andy Pennington, who founded the company in 2016, said: “Overnight our education solution is now a 360-degree platform incorporating phenomenal software and high-spec hardware.

“We are thrilled to join Boxlight and will benefit from the immense resources they provide including their seasoned management team and comprehensive product suite.”

For Boxlight, the acquisition will bolster its leadership roster.

Paul Pickup, former CEO of edtech firm Promethean, and Cohuba founder Andy Pennington, former head of product at Promethean, are now responsible for interactive panels and software at the combined business.

Boxlight president Michael Pope said: “The transaction is part of our continued effort to supplement our organic sales growth with strategic acquisitions that accelerate our ability to distribute our solutions globally.

“Cohuba brings a seasoned sales and operational team and a strong network of reseller partners with decades of experience selling technology solutions into the United Kingdom.”

Mark Elliott, CEO of Boxlight, said: “I am eager to welcome Paul, Andy and the UK team to Boxlight. I have a trusted relationship with Paul and Andy from my time at Promethean, and I look forward to leveraging their knowledge and relationships.”
