Start People invest in apprentice scheme

Adding value to our organisation is one of the key factors that determines ones success at Start People. Everybody has a role to play and it is important that each manager, consultant and office support member of staff understands how to perform at their best to achieve our company goals. As part of our business plan to enhance individual skill sets and develop a more motivated and qualified workforce, we have opted to utilise our investment in the Government Apprentice scheme. The government has set a target of recruiting 3 million Apprentices by the year 2020 and the introduction of the Apprenticeship Levy, which started in April last year, will support this initiative. The levy will help to deliver new apprenticeships to businesses like ours, and will support quality training by putting employers at the centre of the system. The Levy gives Start People the chance to create our own workforce, tailored to our businesses’ needs. Not only will this help aid the recruitment of new hires but we are also able to up-skill our existing employees - something that fortunately for me, Start People have chosen to progress with this month.

Last week I was successfully enrolled on a Level 3 Digital Marketing course which consists of 3 modules over a period of 18 months. The majority of this work will be undertaken in our workplace (80% on the job training such as issued projects and coursework) with one day a month out at our apprenticeship service head office (20% off the job training including classroom sessions and webinars). By the end of the course I will be fully qualified in Digital Marketing principles and will be able to take full ownership of our social media platforms, online campaigns and website development. The outcome of this for our firm will be an increase in the effectiveness of our online presence but with reduced costs on outsourcing website maintenance and online activity. With this in mind and combined with our growth plan over the next 18 months, we are looking forward to working with more apprentices in the future. For myself, I can’t wait to get started as I continue to define my place more each day at Start People.
