Port of Tyne sees new business with 'biomechanically' engineered footwear

High demand for scientifically engineered footwear has seen global brand, FitFlop complete a new partnership deal with its Gateshead-based ‘e-fulfilment’ provider and existing Port of Tyne customer, Spark Response.

In 2007, Marcia Kilgore - serial entrepreneur and award-winning businesswoman - founded FitFlop, bringing her first biomechanically engineered sandals to thousands of women globally.

Over a decade later, FitFlop has broadened its range of sandals, sneakers, loafers and skates, alongside its global brand campaign ‘FOR SUPERWOMEN’, featuring Uma Thurman.

FitFlop has been a huge commercial success world-wide and as a result the Port will provide overspill warehousing and distribution to Spark Response for up to 2,500 pallets.

Noel Lambert, operations director for Spark Response, said: “From our 170,000 sq ft distribution centre in Gateshead, we handle e-fulfilment for some of the UK’s most well-known retail brands.

“We have worked with Fit-Flop since 2007 and needed to find additional scalable, safe and secure storage, our existing relationship with Port of Tyne made their warehousing and distribution the ideal choice.”

The Port will provide on-demand pallet distribution direct to Spark Response’s distribution centre at near-by Follingsby Park in Gateshead.

Richard Newton, commercial director of logistics for Port of Tyne, added: “It’s a partnership that offers the potential to lead to more business in the future as we work to promote our container feeder services, and work with new and existing customers like Spark to create increased efficiencies in their supply chains.”
