Auger recognised for fleet safety

Auger, the drainage and water mains expert for the insurance industry, has been recognised by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) for the quality of its vehicle fleet safety.

The growing business has received the Gold Fleet Safety Award as part of the internationally-recognised RoSPA Health and Safety Awards.

The award comes after the business made a number of changes to the way it operated its fleet, restructuring its internal team, developing bespoke software and apps, and updating its policies and bonus scheme to take into account safe driving.

Sharon Kaye, business process and HR manager for Wallasey-based Auger, said the changes also reflected consultations with drivers themselves.

She explained: “As a company which employs a team of engineers working around the UK and spending significant time on the road, it is important that our fleet performance and safety processes are second to none.

“As we have grown as a business we have worked extremely hard to raise safety awareness, and have made changes including appointing a member of the senior management team to be responsible for daily monitoring of issues such as hours spent driving, driving styles and complaints.

“We have worked with our HR software provider in developing enhancements to our portal, and even developed our own suite of mobile and digital apps for clients, customers, engineers and internal operations staff which offers complete transparency.

“One of the most important steps has been to work closely with the drivers themselves, helping to motivate staff, improve morale and reduce turnover. We are already seeing improvements and look forward to continuing to raise awareness and maintain our focus on keeping our drivers safe.”

Auger will be presented with the award at a ceremony in Birmingham on Wednesday, July 4.
