New Fatface store opens at intu Metrocentre

intu Metrocentre has welcomed the arrival of an exciting new brand this month, guaranteed to entice and delight fashion conscious shoppers from across the north east.

FatFace is occupying a 4,800 sq ft unit in the upper Platinum Mall adjacent to H&M Kids, Waterstones, Tessutti, Carluccio’s and Laura Ashley, adding to the Platinum Mall’s fashion and lifestyle tenant mix and creating fifteen full and part-time jobs for people in the region.

FatFace was founded in 1988 and has become renowned as a brand that designs modern, stylish clothes for all the family. The brand had humble beginnings with founders Tim Slade and Jules Leaver selling t-shirts and sweatshirts from the back of their campervan, followed by the opening of their first store in Fulham in 1992.

Thirty years after they started, the same entrepreneurial spirit still remains at the heart of the business, underpinning FatFace’s growth into a successful multi-channel retailer with over 200 stores, including recent expansion to the USA.

FatFace is passionate about sustainability and every piece is crafted with the wearer in mind, with unique details, high quality fabric and rugged stitching and construction, meaning that their clothes are made to last.

From organic cotton chinos and stylish accessories to sweet summer dresses and the luxe Copper and Black occasionwear range made using Liberty London fabrics FatFace has quality pieces to suit the whole family this season.

Gavin Prior, regional centre director at intu Metrocentre, said:

“The Platinum Mall creates the perfect opportunity for aspirational brands to benefit from intu Metrocentre’s unique position as Europe’s largest covered shopping centre and 23 million annual visitors.

“The mall is designed to meet the needs of intu Metrocentre’s more affluent customer and reflects intu’s commitment to creating the right environment in which quality, niche brands can flourish.

“We’re confident that the addition of the FatFace brand to our existing offering will enhance the shopping experience for our customers and prove a popular choice for discerning, fashion conscious shoppers.”

Ben Cox, senior asset manager for intu, added:

“We’re delighted to welcome FatFace to intu Metrocentre. Our customers have been seeking their arrival for some time and it’s fantastic to see the opening ahead of Summer 2018. They join a great existing line-up of quality fashion and lifestyle retailers at Platinum Mall and we’re sure FatFace will prove to be a successful addition to the mix.”

Daren Humphrey, Head of Acquisitions and Estates at FatFace, commented:

“FatFace are delighted to be working with intu on this project and we are excited about opening in intu Metrocentre and bringing the FatFace brand to Gateshead.”
