Evans and University of York complete construction of new £2.5m medical centre
Construction work has now been completed on a £2.5m medical centre and further amenities at Kimberlow Hill Retail Park, located at Kimberlow Rise adjacent to the University of York Heslington East campus.
Leeds-based Evans Property Group, in partnership with the University of York, delivered the 10,500 sq ft facility which is being run by Unity Health.
The medical centre, which is expected to attract around 75,000 visitors annually, replaces the existing University of York campus surgery and incorporates the surgery from Hull Road.
The new facilities include 16 clinical consulting rooms, a suite of rooms fitted for minor surgery procedures, and a dedicated phlebotomy room as well as a 50-seater seminar room available for community use and 57-seat waiting room.
The Kimberlow Hill Retail Park is within the suburb of Heslington in the east of York, on the edge of the University campus.
A Greggs bakery and Nisa Local convenience store have both recently opened on site. In addition, a pharmacy, Subway and a tanning business, Indigo Sun, are due to join the park’s lineup.
Richard Bean, senior asset manager at Evans Property Group, commented: “We are delighted to announce completion of the new medical centre operated by Unity Health, together with a number of additional retail outlets to include Greggs bakery and Nisa Local, designed to satisfy the growing needs of the Heslington East campus and surrounding areas.
“The new Medical Centre now more effectively supports the health and wellbeing of the local community, as well as University students and staff.”
Louise Johnston, managing partner at Unity Health, added: “Unity Health is proud to have the newest and most up to date primary healthcare centre in York. We are really pleased to offer our patients this amazing facility which we have been building up to for some time.
“Not only will it improve our patient environment significantly, but it will make our working lives so much better, creating the best clinical space to see and treat our 24,000 patients. We hope our patients will appreciate and value this new facility as much as our team here at Unity Health.”
