CASH BOOST FOR BARNSLEY HOSPICE’S REFURBISHMENT PROJECT

A regional housebuilder has given a £1,000 donation towards Barnsley Hospice as it fundraises to transform its inpatient bedrooms. The Hospice was chosen by Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire to become one of its Community Champions. The scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for a match-funded donation of up to £1,000. The ‘Comfort and Care’ refurbishment project will see Barnsley Hospice refurbish its ten inpatient rooms to a high standard with specialist beds, furniture, flooring and décor - to help patients, and those close to them, feel more comfortable during their stay. Janet O’Hara, grants, trusts & legacies fundraiser at the Hospice, said: “This will be the first time our inpatient department has been fully refurbished since we opened the unit in 2001. “We are completely modernising our facilities so that patients and their families can feel comfortable and relaxed, helping them feel more at home during difficult times. “We have been actively fundraising for this ‘Comfort and Care’ campaign to try to reach our £200,000 target and Persimmon’s donation is a great boost to our efforts, we are very grateful.” Simon Whalley, sales director at Persimmon Homes West Yorkshire, added: “Barnsley has been an integral part of our housebuilding strategy and we currently building to the north of Barnsley centre as well as in Wombwell. “We would all like to think we will never need the services of a Hospice, but this can sadly not be the case. We felt that Barnsley Hospice was a very deserving choice for our Community Champion award.” Barnsley Hospice, on Church Street in Gawber, provides compassionate care and support to hundreds of local people with life limiting illnesses and their families.
