FUNDING BOOST FOR YORK-BASED CAUSES

Two York causes have each scooped much-needed funding from a leading housebuilder, demonstrating the breadth of community organisations being supported.

Tang Hall Community Centre and Big Futures Foundation are the latest recipients of Community Champions awards from Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, each receiving £1,000 towards their causes.

The national match-funding scheme seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life or environment across the region.

Kevin Thubron, sales director for Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “There are so many different voluntary groups helping to make life better for local people, so we are proud to be able to support organisations in our region. Both of these groups thoroughly deserve Community Champions awards.”

Tang Hall Community Centre, based on Fifth Avenue, is a community hub for social enterprise and social inclusions. The charity is continually fundraising to maintain its facilities and to introduce new services to benefit the growing community. Persimmon’s donation will help launch its community food cooperative project, enabling the charity to create a dedicated space to store and redistribute food to the community on a regular basis.

The Big Futures Foundation supports children living in disadvantaged communities from the age of five through to when they start work. The charity is currently raising funds for a fully qualified therapeutic counsellor to work at two York primary schools for two academic years, providing emotional support for pupils and families. Persimmon’s donation will ensure that this new offering can finally be established.

Community groups, charities and good causes across the country have benefited thanks to the donations from Persimmon Homes. Organisations can apply for funding by completing a simple online form at www.persimmonhomes.com/charity

The scheme invites local groups and charities to bid for cash from a national fund, with two donations of up to £1,000 being made locally each month.

Persimmon Homes Yorkshire is currently in the early stages of its Germany Beck development in Fulford. The housebuilder also has developments across, North and South Yorkshire, East Riding of Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
