Japanese-inspired burger restaurant coming to Southwark
Japanese urban-inspired burger chain Yen Burger is coming to Borough Market in Southwark.
The company’s new 70-cover restaurant, to be located at 1B Southwark Street, will be its first in the UK.
A brand new concept, the eatery’s Asian-influenced burgers will combine ingredients such as Japanese chili, Kim-chi mayonnaise and Asian herbs like ‘shiso’. It will also offer a cocktail menu featuring spice-infused aperitifs.
Yen Burger was founded by restaurateur Yen Nguyen, who said: “Although I grew up in Europe surrounded by lots of great western food chains, I could never go a day without my mother’s delicious Asian cuisine therefore I wanted to create something that is truly unique and combines western food with light east Asian ingredients – an Asian burger.
“The opening of Yen Burger sees this dream come to fruition and I’m so excited to start welcoming guests into the restaurant.”
The restaurant’s interiors, created by London studio ID design, will blend muted gold tones with a paired-back Asian design across two levels.
Property firm CDG Leisure worked on behalf of Yen Burger to secure the 2,630 sq ft premises.
CDG’s Sammy Weinbaum, who brokered the deal for the Southwark Street premises, commented: “We are very excited to secure this off-market deal for Yen. This will be the UK debut and the flagship location in a brilliant part of London.
“We look forward to seeing it become a fast favourite for workers, residents and tourists alike.”
Yen Burger will launch at the end of June.
