The Alchemist to invest almost £3m in new Covent Garden and Shoreditch venues
Bar and restaurant brand The Alchemist has signed deals on two new central London locations.
The company has today (June 18) confirmed plans to invest £1.6m in a 72-cover, 6,966 sq ft venue on St Martins Lane in Covent Garden.
The Alchemist will simultaneously invest £1.3m in another restaurant-bar on Old Street in Shoreditch. Spanning 4,456 sq ft, the venue will accommodate 76 covers and an outdoor area with a further 28 covers.
Each venue’s design, led by interiors firm Macaulay Sinclair, will showcase the brand’s trademark amber, coppers, reds and gothic art.
The openings follow the launch of The Alchemist’s first London site in Bevis Marks, which will now undergo a £280k refurb.
The Alchemist MD Simon Potts said: “We are delighted to finally announce these London venues, it’s been a long time coming but we feel incredibly lucky to have secured two fantastic locations; St Martins Lane and Old Street.
“Both areas are vibrant, intriguing and offer a fantastically diverse drinking and dining scene. Overall the locations feel a perfect fit for us.”
He continued: “London is obviously a competitive market. But following the success of Bevis Marks, we are confident we can offer a memorable and immersive experience for both residents and tourists to enjoy.
“Customers of our existing site will see a real difference in both our offering and design as we aim to elevate our venues with each launch, and these will be no different. We cannot wait to open the doors and put more Alchemist stamps across the city of London.”
The Covent Garden venue will open this November and the Shoreditch site in March 2019.
The project to refurbish the Bevis Marks Alchemist will start on August 6, with a reopening date of August 20.
