HOUSEBUILDER BOOSTS SCOUT HUT REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT

A scout group raising funds for a new hut has received a cash boost from a leading housebuilder.

The 1st Easingwold Scout Group has been given £1,000 from Persimmon Homes Yorkshire’s highly successful Community Champions scheme.

The scout group has been working hard fundraising for a replacement hut after their World War Two timber building has been deemed unsound and will have to be demolished.

Chair of the scout group, Sue Scotter, said: “We are extremely grateful to Persimmon Homes for their valuable support of the Easingwold Outdoor Centre Redevelopment Project.

“It is not just our group that benefits from the hut but many more community groups and organisations such as playgroups, forest schools and guides.

“The demolish and rebuild will cost in the region of £150k and we have already raised over £100k. Persimmon Homes’ donation is a huge boost in helping us to each our goal.”

Kevin Thubron, sales director at Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, added: “Our Community Champions initiative is all about supporting good causes in the areas we are building and our latest development in Easingwold, called The Weald, made the scout group a perfect choice.

“This is a perfectly deserving community project that we a delighted to support.

“We always receive so many applications for our Community Champions initiative. I really encourage any charities and groups looking for funding to apply to the scheme for their chance to receive up to £1,000 match-funding for their own cause.”

Each month the builder donates up to £2,000 to community groups across the region. This also happens across Persimmon’s other 30 operating areas, meaning up to £60,000 is dished out every single month – a total of £720,000 a year, and more than £2million since the scheme started back in 2015.

Persimmon Homes’ The Weald development will feature a collection of two, three and four bedroom homes.
