Buyer sought for 200-year-old country house in Leeds

A Grade II-listed former country house near Roundhay Park and Leeds Golf Club has hit the market.

Commercial property consultancy Lambert Smith Hampton (LSH) will sell Elmete Hall on behalf of the property’s owners, Getech Group and Overland.

While the building currently serves as office space, LSH said it could be converted for other uses, including residential.

Neighbouring Elmete Hall is Hampton Park, a recently completed development of nine four- and five-bed homes that all sold prior to completion.

Elmete Hall was built in 1815 by the Nicholson family of Roundhay Park and bought later that century by Leeds locomotive engineer James Kitson, who used it as his family home.

The property was bought from Leeds City Council in 2005 and redeveloped and extended by Leeds property developer Rushbond, creating 17,243 sq ft of commercial space across three office buildings – Kitson House, Nicholson House and Old Hall.

Elmete Hall occupies 1.14 acres and has car parking for 66 vehicles.

LSH director – office advisory, Adam Varley, said: “We’re excited to bring one of Leeds’ finest period buildings to market.

“This is a rare opportunity to acquire a substantial property in a highly-desirable location adjoining Roundhay Park.”

He continued: “While the property is currently occupied by two businesses, Elmete Hall is suitable for a variety of alternative uses including residential, care home or hotel/leisure accommodation subject to planning consent.

“We’re looking forward to playing our part in the next chapter for this historic building.”
