A taste of Great Northern Producers
Some of Britain’s top chefs along with great food producers are taking part in a series of summer events ‘Inspired By’ Great Exhibition of the North in Newcastle.
National and international, award-winning Northern chefs along with great food producers will be showcased at exclusive evenings at Saltwater Fish Company and Porterhouse Butcher and Grill in Fenwick Food Hall between early July and mid-September.
The Great Northern Supper Clubs featuring Great Northern Chefs and Great Northern Producer events are a creative partnership between Fenwick Newcastle and celebrated regional chef and restaurateur Terry Laybourne.
Terry said: “The Great Exhibition of the North is an ideal backdrop to celebrate the many great chefs from the North working regionally, nationally and internationally.
“Alongside this we’re also showcasing some of the fabulous food producers that are available within the region where our own chefs are developing creative menus to promote the flavours and qualities of this produce.
“The range of outstanding chefs and producers shows the diversity of Northern cooking and food. It’s a unique opportunity for people in the region to sample great cooking while also being able to meet and talk to the chefs and food producers in an informal, intimate setting.”
To highlight and explain Terry’s food philosophy and that of his food and drink suppliers, Terry has organised four mouth-watering Great Northern Producer events at Porterhouse Butcher and Grill, in Fenwick, from July.
These unique events will showcase great produce, great cooking and the Porterhouse experience within Fenwick Food Hall. Terry and his team have crafted and will be cooking bespoke menus created for these one-off events, with producers attending to share anecdotes and explain the passion that goes into their produce. The events feature:
9th July - Steve Ramshaw, Northumbrian Wagyu Beef. Tickets £65 23rd July - Dhavall Ghandi, Whisky led dinner with the one of the spirit industries brightest lights and head Whisky Maker at The Lakes Distillery. Tickets £75 30th July - Peter Hannan, World Famous Himalayan Salt Aged Beef. Tickets £65. 3rd September - Ann Gray, Ravensworth Grange Farm, Middle White Pork. Tickets £50
Terry said: “We’re passionate about our products and the producers we work with. We know where the animals are from – which estates, which farms – we know how they were fed and brought up and we know how the meat was prepared and aged. It’s all about having a genuine respect for a quality process and good animal husbandry.
“Great cooking relies on not just great food and ingredients but producers who are passionate about their animals and quality of their meat.”
Over a similar period, Terry has organised a series of Great Northern Supper Club events featuring guest chefs from around the UK and beyond, all with a Northern heritage. Tickets are still available for some events.
Prominent chefs taking part in these intimate culinary evenings, many of whom have Michelin stars to their names, include Kenny Atkinson (House of Tides, Newcastle), Nigel Haworth (Northcote, Lancashire), Shaun Rankin (Ormer Mayfair, London), Maunika Gowardhan (Indian chef and author), Billy White (Rosendals Gardens, Stockholm) and Frances Atkins (Yorke Arms, North Yorkshire) who was the first female British chef to win a Michelin star.
This is a rare opportunity for food lovers to enjoy small plate taster menus, served alongside paired drinks, from some of Britain’s leading chefs who will share anecdotes about their food and careers in intimate surroundings.
