1930s hotel in Tynemouth undergoing £3m transformation

The Park Hotel Tynemouth, which was originally built in the 9130s, is currently undergoing a £3m transformation.

The first phase of work, costing £2.5m, began in 2018 and has seen all 55 en-suite bedrooms and bathrooms refurbished, as well as the construction of a new restaurant and kitchen.

The hotel’s Art Deco style has been a major influence during its modernisation. The design and décor of the new bedrooms, for example, pays homage to the hotel’s Art Deco roots. Most of the bedrooms have sea views.

The new restaurant, called The Salt Cove, also combines the style of the 1930s with a contemporary look. Its original ceiling has been restored and the dining area features exposed brick and wood.

The hotel will re-open later this summer and the project will be completed with a further £500k spent on the reception area and the hotel’s ballroom, which measures 3,760 square feet.

The number of staff will be trebled and next year a conference and banqueting team will also be recruited.

Kara Beecroft, the hotel’s sales and marketing manager, said: “We already have a stunning location and we are creating the facilities and top quality service to match.

“Whether you are staying in the hotel, visiting for a meal or drink, holding your wedding reception or staging a major exhibition or conference, The Park Hotel Tynemouth will serve your needs.

“We will provide fantastic food and drink and are very excited about the relationships we are developing with some great local suppliers. Together we will deliver an excellent experience for our guests.”

The hotel also said that wedding bookings for 2019 have already increased five-fold. Thousands of people are expected to attend Nethermined – one of Europe’s biggest gaming conventions – which is taking place at the hotel on 11th and 12th August, and in November the hotel is staging a Winter Fayre.

Mrs Beecroft added: “The team behind the hotel’s transformation have worked incredibly hard and we are all so proud of what has already been achieved and what we expect will be achieved in the coming months and years.

“We’ll attract visitors and events from the rest of the UK and beyond, and local residents – as they have throughout the history of The Park Hotel Tynemouth – will look to us for their special occasions.”
