Self-help comedian to inject joy into ‘unhappy’ Bradford with refreshing education celebration
With a 2017 poll identifying Bradford as one of ten most unhappy cities in the UK, stand-up comedian and happiness guru Shonette Bason Wood is bringing her brand-new comedy celebration to the area.
The event is part of her mission to start a revolution in education – one that begins with lifting and inspiring those in charge of teaching our children.
Launched by Shonette, from County Durham, and her comedy partner, Hywel Roberts, ‘The Happiness Injection’ is aimed at those working in education and seeks to spread joy in a ripple effect to parents, families and the wider community.
Described as a refreshing self-help comedy, the two-hour event at Swain House Primary School on Monday 9th July at 4.30pm, will see the comedians share their top tips on seeing the ‘happy in the everyday’, in a bid to uplift and inspire educators in Bradford.
Motivational speaker and positive thinker, Shonette, 46, started her working life as a primary school teacher, before realising her vision of bringing joy to the masses. Four years ago, she launched her charity, Spread the Happiness, as well as her comedy show, and she is currently touring the UK on a one-way mission to spread happiness across the country.
As well as her calendar of comedy shows and fundraising events, she visits schools in highly deprived areas to aid teachers in neurological-based ways of teaching for pupils at a disadvantage.
“I’m really looking forward to visiting Bradford and Swain House school,” says Shonette. “With ‘The Happiness Injection’, we’re looking to reconnect, reenergise and celebrate the amazing job educators do with our children. Our core plan with this new comedy event is to spread joy to the school staffrooms, with the broader aim of rippling out to families and the local community.
“I started out as a primary school teacher myself and my self-help comedy perspective on life has helped me sustain a career in education of over 20 years, so I want to share my top tips on maintaining happiness with those working in schools and nurseries.”
