World Cup fans assist in Heathrow scoring record-breaking June
Heathrow has reported its busiest ever June as more than seven million passengers travelled through the airport, marking a 5.4% increase on June 2017.
With the World Cup in full flow, Heathrow saw a 50% increase in the number of passengers travelling to Russia on June 26th.
Africa saw the most passenger growth in June (+11.3%), closely followed by South Asia (+11%) and Latin America (+9.2%).
Last month also saw over 139,000 metric tonnes of cargo passed through Heathrow.
In addition, Gate 13 at Heathrow’s Terminal 3 has been transformed to showcase Scotland with floor-to-ceiling images aimed at boosting tourism north of the border.
Over one million passengers are expected to see the images with further gates set to be transformed to promote Wales and Northern Ireland later this year.
June also saw 415 MPs back the expansion of the airport that will deliver for the whole of the UK in a Parliament vote.
John Holland-Kaye, Heathrow CEO, said: “Heathrow has had a great June, the start to a fantastic summer showing off the best of Britain. We’re proud to be the UK’s gateway, connecting the world’s best fans to the pitches of the World Cup in Russia and the grass courts of Wimbledon.
“With a strong mandate from Parliament to expand, we’ll continue making Britain proud for decades to come.”
