Hull care home staff walk the line for charity

Staff at a Hull care home have walked to great lengths to raise funds which will go towards activities and events for residents.

Carla Taylor, an activity coordinator, and Lisa Anderson, head of domestic services from the Hica Group’s Raleigh Court recently completed a 30-mile walk from Hull to Hornsea which raised over £400.

The walk, which was organised by Carla, followed the old Pennine train route, starting at Drypool and finishing at Hornsea. Carla and Lisa were accompanied by their colleague and activity coordinator Wendy Williamson, who drove the route to offer encouragement and support.

Carla said: “We are really grateful to everyone who has supported and helped us to raise this money, which will make such a difference for our residents. Although we haven’t decided on what the money will be spent on yet. I’m sure the residents will enjoy it.”

Kath Pearce, acting manager at Raleigh Court, said: “Our staff are always willing to go the extra mile for residents, and in this case, quite literally. It’s great to see that we have a team of dedicated staff who are always committed to delivering the best standard of care and quality of life for the people we look after.”

Staff and residents within Hica Group care homes and retirement villages often take part in locally organised fundraisers and events in which they raise money for their own communities and homes. The organisation also runs the SHINE Fund, which combines the collective fundraising efforts of staff, residents and their families and enables the group to invest in activities and equipment for the users of their services.

The Hica Group is a not for profit organisation which operated a portfolio of 15 care homes across Hull and the East Riding, five of which are for people with a learning disability. Hica also runs two retirement villages and a homecare service which provides approximately 11,500 hours of support from four regional offices in the north of England.
