Engineers of the Future
Students from Unity College interested in pursuing a career in engineering attended one of Lancashire’s top sites for a factory visit.
The year 10 students took a tour of CoolKit’s operations alongside teachers from the Burnley high school before meeting members of the team.
Steve Wilkinson, Head of Operations at the leading refrigerated vehicle convertor, greeted the students at the companies Burnley headquarters.
Steve introduced them to the business and guided them through the manufacturing workshop showcasing each stage of production from raw materials to completed conversion. Steve also gave the students some valuable employment and interview tips.
The group were also introduced to Design Engineer James Smith, and Junior Design Engineer Chris Bromley, who talked about how they got into engineering as a career before answering questions from the students.
Steve said: “We have strong links with a number of schools and colleges in the area and we want to help inspire the next generation of skilled workers. It was our pleasure to show the students from Unity College around CoolKit and we hope it has helped to give them an insight into how a successful local company operates.”
A spokesperson from the College said: “Thank you to CoolKit for hosting Unity College students for an Employer Engagement visit. Students really enjoyed gaining an understanding of engineering roles and it has really helped many of them think about future careers and how to present themselves at interview.”
