Yorkshire’s Morgan Lambert acquired by gas safety tech firm Gas Tag

Millington Lord Group and its gas compliance businesses have been acquired by Liverpool firm Gas Tag Group.

The company’s Morgan Lambert business, headquartered in Selby, provides gas and electrical auditing and safety management consultancy services for social landlords.

Millington Lord’s other arm, Qualitas Compliance, offers similar services for the private sector.

Gas Tag, a regulatory technology or ‘regtech’ firm, said the deal will create a leading multi-disciplinary compliance consultancy to the UK’s social housing sector.

Research from the Gas Safe Register shows there are defective gas appliances in more than half (66%) of homes in the UK. Further, over 1.1 million illegal gas installations are carried out annually, putting millions of Brits at risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, gas leaks, fires and explosions.

Morgan Lambert and Qualitas Compliance will expand Gas Tag’s offer with additional auditing capabilities.

Simon Millington and Mick Lord of Millington Lord Group will continue to work within the business, following its acquisition. Lee Bradshaw, who has worked with the firm for nine years, has become managing director of Morgan Lambert.

Gas Tag CFO George Dutton said: “We are extremely excited about this strategic acquisition. It’s a fantastic opportunity which will help us to achieve our vision of making the UK the safest country in the world.

“Morgan Lambert and Qualitas Compliance have a significant amount of knowledge and experience as well as an impressive list of clients who put gas safety at the heart of everything they do.”

He added: “The complementary nature of our businesses will allow for a seamless integration; creating a significant and unique offering to our key customers.”

Lee Bradshaw commented: “This is an exciting time for us. Both Morgan Lambert and Gas Tag have a passionate desire to improve Gas Safety within the UK and these aligned interests will allow both businesses to focus on this vision, share innovation ideas and improve the sector.”

Discussing the deal, Simon Millington said: “We have worked tirelessly to build a business based on professionalism, attention to detail and innovation.

“The acquisition by Gas Tag will enable further expansion of the business, taking it to a whole new level and I couldn’t be more pleased.”

An investment in Gas Tag from private equity house Waterland, completed earlier this year, valued the business at more than £20m.
