KAEFER Group unveils pilot partnership with Newcastle VR technology firm
Luminous Group, the digital technology firm, has entered into a pilot partnership with one of the world’s largest insulation, access and construction safety companies, KAEFER Group.
Based in Newcastle, Luminous Group has developed three bespoke virtual reality scenarios for KAEFER Group, including personal protective equipment (PPE) training, working at height and confined space training.
These VR scenarios have been designed to provide the safest training possible for KAEFER’s staff and clients.
Benelux Chris Hunter, managing director of KAEFER, said: “We deal with difficult situations on a daily basis. While traditional training methods have been successful in the past, we’re moving to a more hands-on approach that Luminous Group and their virtual scenarios have been able to provide.
“The programme’s Luminous Group have developed allow us to recreate and assess performance for very real, dangerous situations but in a safe and controlled environment.”
The idea for the pilot training programmes stemmed from KAEFER’s Safety Street project, brought in to place to replace the regulatory off-site induction PowerPoints with more engaging interaction and role play training programmes.
A group from KAFER’s Junior Leadership programme wanted to further advance the Safety Street project and developed the idea of creating a virtual reality version of the programme.
With Luminous Group’s experience delivering training programmes for those working in industrial environments, they were selected to partner KAEFER on the project.
Ben Bennett, managing director of Luminous Group and a specialist in 3D laser scanning, modelling and visualisation, added: “People are quickly learning that virtual reality isn’t just for the gaming world.
“For a global company like KAEFER, who deal with dangerous and temperamental situations, gaining physical experience without risking health and safety has never been more vital.
“We’ve worked closely with KAEFER to develop a bespoke solution which mirrors real life scenarios to prepare their staff and clients for working in the field.”
Luminous Group specialises in the delivery of 3D mapping, virtual, augmented and mixed reality solutions in a range of industries, including oil and gas, health and safety, training, food processing and warehouse logistics.
