York builder's donation hits the right note for music charity
A musical charity that helps children with complex needs or serious illness to communicate through music, has been awarded £1,000.
Persimmon Homes Yorkshire has made the donation to Jessie’s Fund which is fundraising a new music therapy project for children at York Teaching Hospital.
The grant was made through its hugely successful Community Champions scheme.
Jessie’s Fund uses music to help children with serious illness, complex and communication difficulties through the therapeutic use of music. Having worked with numerous children’s hospices and special schools in the UK since its launch in 1995 the fund is now working towards introducing its musical expertise and therapists to York Teaching Hospital.
Set by Lesley Schatzberger, as a last legacy to her daughter Jessie who sadly passed away of a rare and inoperable brain tumour, the current project is intended to support hospitals treatments and counselling services.
Lesley said: “Music can have a profound effect on pain relief and provides a gentle, yet beneficial, tool for communication. Over the years we have seen such powerful results that we wanted to extend our music therapy further afield.
“We have to raise £15,000 to fund a music therapist at the hospital and Persimmon’s donation has made a significant difference in helping us to reaching our goal.”
Kevin Thubron, sales director at Persimmon Homes Yorkshire, said: “It is clear that Jessie’s Fund provides an invaluable service to young people who are at their most vulnerable. As we are building at many sites across Yorkshire it is good to hear that our donation will be put to such good use.
“If people were unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next recipient.”
