Council partnership secures ‘prestigious’ pest control contract

A partnership between Middlesbrough Council and Durham County Council has been awarded a ‘prestigious’ pest control contract.

Middlesbrough has provided the service for the whole of the Thirteen Housing Group across the northern region for the last five years. The contract recently came to an end and was re-tendered by Thirteen.

Middlesbrough Council formed a partnership with Durham County Council’s pest control service, which has contracts with a number of housing providers, with Middlesbrough in the lead role.

The tenders have now been awarded with the Middlesbrough-Durham partnership prevailing over five other contractors coming first in both quality and price.

The contract started on July 1st, and runs for up to five years.

Councillor Denise Rooney, Middlesbrough Council’s Executive Member for Environment and Commercial Services, said: “Contracts like this are increasingly important at the Council seeks to develop new income streams to support the delivery of services.

“It demonstrates not only our competitiveness and value for money but our willingness to explore opportunities for collaborative and mutually advantageous partnership working. Years of hard work and experience have been brought to bear, and will stand Middlesbrough in good stead for the future.”

Cllr Brian Stephens, Durham County Council’s Cabinet member for neighbourhoods and local partnerships, commented: “We are proud to have won such a prestigious contract through our collaborative approach.

“This increases the number of housing companies that we are providing services to and we are confident of expanding this further.”

Scott Lowther, director of facilities management at Thirteen, also added: “After a competitive and robust tendering process we’re looking forward to working with the Middlesbrough-Durham partnership to ensure our customers receive the best possible pest control service.”
