TEESSIDE CIVIL ENGINEERING FIRM COMPLETES SECURITY SCHEME ON HISTORIC SOUTH SHIELDS STREET

A Teesside civil engineering business has completed implementing a scheme for secure traffic management on one of South Tyneside’s most famous streets.

Lynas Engineers based in Redcar was awarded the contract, earlier this year, by South Tyneside Council to design the security system on South Shields’ historic Ocean Road.

Known as a Matador 4, the new security system contains two fixed bollards either side of two sliding bollards which will move to allow vehicle access and is located at the junction between Anderson Street and Ocean Road.

Designed to put a stop to car access on the busy street whilst still allowing for pedestrian and delivery vehicle entry, the Matador 4 security system is the most resistant bollard of its type and can halt a 7.2 tonne truck travelling at 40mph.

Speaking about the system, Rob Lynas, MD and founder of Lynas Engineering said: “We are delighted to have completed this project for South Tyneside Council. Our vast experience of managing vehicle manoeuvres have enabled us to make sure both vehicles and pedestrians can move around safely on the busy street.”

The Lynas team worked closely with South Tyneside Council on the installation of the perimeter security scheme with fitting being managed around an old concrete road and the existence of possible tram lines underneath the surface.

The design of the security scheme included a loop at the front of the bollards which can detect and verify delivery vehicles before opening up and allowing access.
