Housebuilder’s cash donation helps Amesbury football club aim for its goals
An Amesbury football club has received a donation from a regional builder to help it improve its facilities and achieve its ambition of creating a thriving community club. Amesbury Town Football Club received £500 from Persimmon Homes South Coast, based in Fareham, through its match-funded Community Champions scheme. The club is a volunteer-run non-league football club based at the Bonnymead Park facility, in Recreation Road. Club Secretary Chris Green said: “As a club that is very much focused on being at the heart of the community, we are looking to ensure that our ground and clubhouse can be used by more than the adult first team. “This would include the development of a youth reserve team over the next few seasons to help ensure that young adults have the opportunity to play for a local, well-run club. This is a long-term aspiration and some work is needed to upgrade the club’s infrastructure to ensure that the ambition can be met sustainably. “We have now launched a fundraising campaign to help improve the stands, clubhouse and grass pitch and we are grateful to Persimmon Homes South Coast for the support; such an investment is fantastic.” Matt Paine, managing director for Persimmon Homes South Coast, which is currently building at St Peter’s Place, Fugglestone Red, said: “It is important to us that we support the areas in which we build, and we are delighted that the Community Champions scheme can help Amesbury Town build on its success. “If people were unsuccessful in their Community Champions application, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next recipient.”
