Football club gets a cash boost to buy new kit
A football club in Stratford-upon-Avon, which has more than 550 players of all ages, has been given a cash boost thanks to a regional builder.
Stratford Town Colts FC’s junior football teams have been awarded the cash as part of Persimmon Homes’ South Midlands Community Champions scheme.
The club, which has 29 junior boys’ teams, five girls’ teams and three pan disability teams, want to set up two new U8 boys teams, each comprising 10 players.
The £1,000 donation will fund new kits for the teams and help continue to promote sports activity in the community from an early age.
Patrick Halton, from the club, said: “We are a junior and youth voluntary run football club, so donations like this are so gratefully received.
“With more than 550 young players, as a club we have grown tremendously. It’s great to see so many youngsters taking part in a sport that they are so passionate about.
“We want to continue to nurture this. The addition of our two new teams, who are graduates from STFC Grasshoppers (5-7year olds), will mean that even more young players get the opportunity to play competitively – and now they’ll look the part too.”
The Persimmon Homes Community Champions scheme allows charities and groups to apply for funding up to the value of £1,000 to match money they have already raised themselves.
Persimmon Homes South Midlands is currently building in Long Marston at its Cotswold Vale development, providing a range of two, three, four and five-bedroom homes.
Carol Selway, sales director at Persimmon Homes South Midlands said: “It is important to us that we support the communities in which we build. I’m really happy to hear that the funds we have donated to the football club will kit out the two young teams and we wish them all the best in their upcoming season.”
Patrick added: “Hopefully people moving into the town at Cotswold Vale will also bring lots of new members to the club and we cannot thank Persimmon Homes enough for their support.”
