Green Hammerton,

Work to begin on 80 new homes in major £20m Green Hammerton development

Yorkshire house builder, Loxley Homes has secured permission to start work on a 12-acre site later this summer after planners approved the scheme at a meeting on July 24.

The Spring Heights development will include 32 affordable homes, and up to 48 two, three and four-bedroom houses on a former agricultural site in the village which is situated between Harrogate and York.

The local developer, part of the privately-owned Prospect Property Group, amended its application in response to concerns expressed by local people during three periods of public consultation and worked with planning consultant RDS to revise its plans.

Harrogate and Leeds-based Aspect Architecture was commissioned to design the scheme. James Elliott, from Aspect, said: “Loxley proposed a good scheme, and they listened to what planners and locals wanted to see changed during the consultation that started in 2017.

“As the planners recognised in their final report, the site has social benefits in providing much needed housing, and is located near bus routes and roads for commuting as well as being able to support local community facilities.”

Work on the site will commence later this month with the first phase of homes expected to be available early in 2019, and show homes and a marketing suite are due to open by the end of the year. Properties are expected to range in price between £63k and £585k.

Mr Elliott continued: “We worked hard to present a very high quality scheme to fit into the green space and existing village housing stock, and we’re looking forward to moving forward with the development later this summer.”

Loxley Homes currently has three other developments underway in Hunsingore, near Wetherby; Alwoodley, North Leeds; and Darley, near Harrogate; with further planning applications scheduled in coming months.
