New appointment for CAN committee

Construction Alliance Northeast (CAN), an organisation established to represent over 500 regional SMEs in construction and civil engineering, welcomes Caroline Meehan from the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) to the committee.

Caroline previously worked in Australia where she founded a not for profit and award-winning charity, Heartfelt Homes. Her recent career move brought her back to her native UK where she joined the FMB as Northern Regional Director.

CAN and FMB have worked closely together in the past to protect the interests of regional SMEs in construction and civil engineering. Caroline joining the committee means that they can rebuild and strengthen their relationship and continue to combat issues that their members face particularly in relation to public sector procurement and fairer payment terms.

Speaking about joining the CAN committee, Caroline said:

“I have a huge amount of admiration for our members and tradesmen. They provide our built environment and are essential to the development of our country. I am passionate about supporting them in whichever way FMB and CAN are able to.

“I think that the lack of regulation throughout the industry is a real problem. I strongly believe that licensing could help improve the image of the industry, keep our members safer and ensure they are paid fairly and on-time. I also think that we need to work together to provide the correct training and information to the industry, so trades people know where to go to access the help and support they need.

“CAN are committed to addressing these issues which is why I think it is so important to work collaboratively with them and I hope I can add value to the group by representing the micro tradesman and members of the FMB.”

Stuart Miller, chair of CAN, welcomed Caroline to the committee. He said: “We are delighted that Caroline has joined the committee representing the members of FMB. Her experience is a valuable asset to the team and we look forward to working with her as we address the many issues which SMEs continue to face in the regional construction industry.”
