Health innovators chosen for second cohort of London’s Sport Tech Hub

Startups innovating in the fields of active ageing and workplace wellbeing are among 11 companies chosen for the second cohort of Sport Tech Hub.

The incubator programme will formally relaunch this September after concluding its first cohort in March.

Its mission is to harness the power of SportTech to promote increased participation in physical activity and sports.

Managed by London Sport, the programme offers support, advice and guidance from partners including professional services giant PwC, law firm Fieldfisher, crowdfunding platform CrowdCube, investors RLC Ventures, leader network Tech London Advocates, British Tennis and the Mayor’s promotional company London & Partners.

The startups forming Sport Tech Hub cohort two are:

  • The Actives – a mobile app aiming to get children more active by engaging, educating, connecting and rewarding users

  • Active Pathways – a digital platform that gives older adults personalised programmes with daily challenges

  • Deuce – an app set up to make playing tennis simpler and more fun and affordable

  • Imaginactive – the company behind an audio-fitness adventure app called Apocalypse Survival Training

  • Medichecks – a healthtech company that sells blood tests online and works to help inactive people make lifestyle changes to improve their health

  • Medopad – a remote monitoring app for injury analysis and prevention

  • RunFriendly – an app to support active commuters

  • Statathlon – a digital tool helping athletes accelerate their sport-specific growth

  • StepJockey – a programme for employers looking to deliver sustainable positive health outcomes for employees

  • Street Tag – a gamified healthy lifestyle app promoting community-wide participation in activities such as walking, running and cycling

  • Virtual Health Labs – the startup behind mi-healthcoach, a behaviour change platform helping people become more active

Alex Zurita, specialist advisor – technology for participation at London Sport, said: “As SportTech plays an increasingly prominent role in the development of physical activity and sport, innovative startups have a real opportunity to shape the ways that we choose to be active in the future.

“The 11 companies that will join the Sport Tech Hub from September offer a thrilling vision of the future of sport.”

Alex added: “We look forward to working with all of them in the coming months as we work together to support more people to live physically active lives.”

Alongside the confirmed startups, Loughborough University London has joined the programme as an academic partner.

Timothy Barnes, head of enterprise development at the university, commented: “By working with Sport Tech Hub, we will help develop routes for smaller organisations to access our global network and provide opportunities for our own students, alumni and researchers.”
