Safety first – primary school students design site posters for local housebuilder’s competition
David Wilson Homes Yorkshire West has teamed up with the pupils from Flockton C of E (C) First School for a competition to design health and safety posters. The winning design will be made into a banner, which will be displayed at its nearby development in the village, Chapel Lea.
The activity follows a recent assembly on health and safety hosted by David Wilson Homes at the school. The assembly is designed to teach children across the region about the importance of health and safety on construction sites, and inspired the poster competition. Sales Adviser at Chapel Lea, Lucy Milnes, recently visited the school to collect the posters in order to select the winning designs, which will be transformed into the banner.
Lucy commented: “At David Wilson Homes, we are dedicated to promoting health and safety on our construction sites, as well as educating those in our local communities how to be safe around our developments. This is why it is brilliant we have collaborated with Flockton First School, not only for a special assembly, but for the poster competition! The entries are excellent – it will be very tough to pick the winner! We are looking forward to inviting the children to Chapel Lea to see the banner proudly in place later this year.”
Emily Hurst, Year 2/3 Teacher and Assistant Head at Flockton First School added: “We are delighted David Wilson Homes invited us to collaborate on this exciting poster competition. The children had a great time putting what they learnt from the assembly into practice by designing their posters. They are very excited to discover the winners and to visit the development for themselves!”
