Wrestling Wars wow Chorley care residents

A party of residents from Buckshaw Retirement Village recently attended a wrestling fundraiser held at nearby Buckshaw Community Centre.

A night out packed full of takedowns, piledrivers and neckbreakers has proved popular with Chorley retirement home residents.

Two local academies, The Lancashire Wrestling Federation and Futureshock, agreed to take part and donated some of the takings to the residents fundraising pot.

Tickets sold fast and over £300 was raised for Buckshaw Retirement Village by attendees, through purchases of a specially made t-shirt, food sales and a tombola.

The wrestling show, inspired by resident John Dowling, proved so popular that staff are looking to make it an annual occurrence.

John Dowling said: “I was very pleased to hear that the staff wanted to organise a show that I could attend. I’ve always found wrestling very entertaining from being a young boy.

“The show was exactly how I imagined, brilliant atmosphere, bright and busy. Everyone taking part was excellent, they really impressed me with their wrestling moves.

“The staff at Buckshaw always go the extra mile, they really make a big effort and I’m extremely thankful that they did this for me.”

Buckshaw Retirement Village staff promote the sharing of memories and interests amongst residents. Not only does this enhance mood but sharing information allows staff to organise specific events and activities.

Lisa Barnes, regional director, said: “I’m really glad that the Wrestling Wars event was a big success. It’s great when we can help our residents experience things that they’ve always wanted to experience.

“I’m grateful to everyone who attended, to both Lancashire Wrestling Federation and Futureshock and to everyone who helped make this happen and raise funds.”

The funds will be reinvested into the home for further events and activities. Upcoming activities at Buckshaw include a live performance from local ukulele performers.
