Make it Like 1976 break launched
Newton House a 4Star B&B in Knaresborough near Harrogate has launched a ‘Make it Like 1976’ package to celebrate the heat wave summer that Britain has enjoyed in summer 2018, the hottest on record since 1976.
Owner, Denise Carter, has happy memories of 1976 and said: “We thought that long hot Summer was never going to end. This was the year I saw The Rolling Stones at Knebworth, and Leonard Cohen at The Royal Albert Hall. And I enjoyed my first holiday in Yorkshire – on the Leeds Liverpool Canal where I fell in love with Saltaire.”
‘Make it Like 1976’ breaks also include:
- A complimentary ‘Newton Wonder’ cocktail, made to Denise’s secret recipe. (From Tequila Sunrise and Harvey Wallbanger, to Pink Ladies and Grasshoppers – cocktails were increasing in popularity in 1976.)
- Sing-along to Abba, who topped the charts with Mama Mia, Fernando and Dancing Queen in 1976. Guests will be encouraged to sing along to their Abba favourites at breakfast, and even dance around the dining room while waiting for their award-winning breakfast to be served.
The ‘Make it Like 1976’ break can only be booked by telephone - or letter … (In 1976 there were no on-line travel agents, like Booking.com, or email, and social media hadn’t been invented; guests booked by telephone or letter having searched the Yellow Pages, or tourist board brochures, or hotel guides like the AA and Egon Ronay)
Denise added: “In 1976 the phrase ‘Junk food’ entered the English language. Newton House is a ’Junk food ’ free zone, and holds the Healthier Choices scheme Gold Award from NYCC. Also, in 1976 Apple Computers was founded by Steve Jobs. I have been using Apple computers for over 30 years, and Newton House bookings are now safely stored on an Apple desktop computer.”
