Grand gesture for Swindon mental health charity
A green-fingered mental health charity in Swindon is celebrating after receiving a cash influx from a leading UK housebuilder.
Persimmon Homes Wessex has donated £1,000 to TWIGS, who support adults with mental health difficulties through gardening, craft and woodworking.
The charity is open to the public three days a week and has held three open garden events during the summer which raised more than £2,000. Persimmon’s donation will go towards maintenance costs at the charity’s base at Manor Garden Centre.
Alan Holland, from TWIGS, said: “We are thrilled to be recognised with such a kind donation from Persimmon Homes
“Our charity uses the therapeutic nature of gardening to help improve the mental health of people living across Wiltshire & Gloucestershire and we work with between 80 and 100 people who come for sessions throughout the week. We also run craft and woodcraft sessions, as well as a gardening group for people with Dementia.
“We are a small charity made up of six members of staff and around 30 volunteers, so donations such as this are so helpful for our group.”
Pauline Fletcher, sales and marketing director at Persimmon Homes Wessex, said: “We are committed to supporting good causes in the regions in which we build and TWIGS is such a fantastic charity to support.
“They provide such a valuable service for those with mental health difficulties and we are thrilled to be able to help them in any way possible.
“Community Champions is a continuous process, so we’d urge groups and clubs to apply for cash via www.persimmonhomes.com/charity.”
