Housebuilder celebrates Hucknall child's futuristic park design

A young pupil from Hucknall has won a Nottingham housebuilder’s drawing competition to design a ‘play park of the future’.

Calvin Wright, 10, from Holgate Primary School, impressed the Persimmon Homes Nottingham team with his vision of what an alternative play park could look like.

Pupils from key stage 1 to 6 put their imaginations to the test by creating colourful, inventive and original designs.

Tom Baskett, head of sales for Persimmon Homes Nottingham, said: “As we are launching our next phase of homes at our Hawkers Place development, just a mile from the school, we were interested to see what the younger generation would consider important in their futuristic play park.

“All of the children showed a thorough understanding of the task and we were really impressed to see how the competition sparked their imagination. It was difficult to choose a winner.

“Entertainment and transport was key in Calvin’s design which featured two swimming pools, helipad, a private airplane and runway and even a barbeque area - we really felt he demonstrated wonderful creativity.”

Calvin received a Lego set, for his efforts.

Emma Severn, head of school, added: “We encourage our pupils to take an active interest in in their community. Links like this with Persimmon have provided us with valuable new learning opportunities, enabling the pupils to be involved within the developments in the areas they live.

“It’s lovely to see how the designs from the children have influenced the new park that has been built.”
