Newcastle firm expands into US with New York office
Tyneside-based global marine insurer North P&I Club has opened a new office in New York – its first in the US.
Based on Newcastle’s Quayside, North P&I employs around 300 people domestically and, in addition to its new American office, the company has a presence in Hong Kong, Shanghai, Japan, Singapore and Greece. It has also announced plans to set up shop in Dublin following the conclusion of Brexit.
The business will be represented in the US by Ian Duthie, who is joining from international insurance broker Marsh.
He and his team are expected to work closely with the existing underwriting, claims and loss prevention departments in the UK’s North East, but will focus on developing relationships with brokers and shipowners across the Americas, the firm says.
According to CEO Paul Jennings, the North American market is important to North P&I’s growth strategy.
He said of the move and new appointment: “We are delighted to welcome Ian to the Club. His wide-ranging experience and expertise in the North American market will be a very strong addition to North’s global team and demonstrate our commitment to this important region.”
