Multi-million pound Advanced Manufacturing Park set to grow further

A major extension to one of Yorkshire’s most strategically important advanced manufacturing sites has been secured by planning and design consultancy Barton Willmore on behalf of Harworth Group.

Now the remaining undeveloped plots at the Advanced Manufacturing Park at Waverley, Rotherham, will be turned into new commercial space for advanced manufacturers following approval from Rotherham Council.

Supported by Barton Willmore, developer Harworth Group will begin work on 12 new units totalling more than 430,000 sq ft of space – the size of seven football pitches.

Jane Beckett, senior planner at Barton Willmore, explained: “We’re delighted to have supported Harworth Group in plans to expand the hugely successful Advanced Manufacturing Park.

“This is one of Yorkshire’s, and the UK’s, most strategically important sites.

“With the existing success of on-site international advanced manufacturers such as McLaren Automotive and Spendor Audio, this last phase of the Advanced Manufacturing Park marks another important step in the development becoming a shining example of industry-led regeneration.

“Barton Willmore worked closely with Harworth to develop plans that will generate real economic value for Rotherham and the Sheffield City Region.”

The Advanced Manufacturing Park is a 150-acre site home to the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre with Boeing (AMRC), Rolls-Royce, Castings Technology International (CTi), TWI Technology (Yorkshire) and the Nuclear ARMC.

The extension to the Advanced Manufacturing Park comes as UK exports have soared to a record £602bn – partly driven by an increased demand for UK manufactured products, according to the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics.

This latest planning consent marks the beginning of the final phase of the original masterplan for the site, which has Enterprise Zone status.

Barton Willmore’s team is also involved in the Waverley new community, Yorkshire’s largest ever brownfield and mixed use development.
