Parkdean Resorts gets green-fingered in aid of local good cause

The garden of a charity-run accommodation project for men in Chester-le-Street has been transformed this summer thanks to Parkdean Resorts.

In aid of North East-based charity Changing Lives, the holiday park operator’s HR team from its central support office in Gosforth spent a day gardening at The Fells to create a welcome space for residents to enjoy.

The overgrown space was given some much-needed TLC touching on all areas including landscaping, planting and pruning, which saw more than 20 of the team get involved.

Parkdean Resorts as a business champions efforts from its people to offer something back to the local community. This was the second time the company has supported Changing Lives, as the HR team came together to decorate eight bedrooms at the charity’s accommodation project for young people in Gateshead last winter.

Providing specialist services to vulnerable people and their families, the County Durham charity supports individuals to make positive, lasting changes in their lives, working with those experiencing issues including homelessness and addiction.

Maggie Pavlou, HR director at Parkdean Resorts said: “From digging weeds, planting flowers and trimming the overgrown greenery, the team worked really hard to make the garden at The Fells an enjoyable area for those staying at the project to relax in. As a business we encourage our people to give back to the local community, and I hope our efforts are well-received by current and future residents.”

Linda McKie, project lead at Changing Lives added: “We are so grateful to Parkdean Resorts’ HR team for volunteering their time to help develop the garden at our men’s residential project in Durham. We have 49 residents staying with us who have experienced homelessness and are receiving support to overcome difficulties in their lives.

“The rejuvenated garden is going to be a valuable addition to the site, providing a therapeutic space, as well as opportunities for residents to develop their gardening skills.”
