Walsh Taylor group marks key milestone

A GUISELEY business recovery specialist, credited with breaking new ground for the way it has opened up careers in the industry to women, is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Launched with ten staff, the Oxford Road-based Walsh Taylor group has grown into a team of 19 people with more than a century of restructuring and insolvency expertise between them.

Joining founder and managing director Mary Taylor when the company first opened its doors was Kate Ellis (nee Breese).

With the support and investment of Mary, she progressed to become one of the youngest licensed insolvency practitioners in the UK, qualifying in 2010 aged just 26.

Appointed a director of Walsh Taylor soon afterwards, Kate said: “The insolvency profession has changed and modernised in many ways since then - It’s great to see so many female IPs now in what used to be a very male dominated industry.

“I have been lucky enough to work alongside, be mentored by, and benefit from the wealth of experience that Mary Taylor has during the 10 years of Walsh Taylor, which has been invaluable to my career.

“To have widened access and helped promote the industry as a career of choice for the next generation of insolvency experts, has been a real hallmark of our journey.”

Over its decade of growth, Walsh Taylor has helped hundreds of company owners and individuals facing financial pressures to turn their situation around and regain control.

Its team of experts has provided an essential lifeline to businesses across the UK, safeguarding many hundreds of jobs – and many are now flourishing as a result of the positive solutions they tailored.

This includes Kate’s most challenging appointments to date – acting as administrator of two different football clubs whilst her role as a licensed insolvency practitioner was still in its infancy.

She said: “Managing the administration of both clubs was a task fraught with difficulties – one had been part of the community since 1899 - but our advice and support paved the way for their sale, securing continuation and their long-term future.

“It was a different type of winning result to what the clubs aim for on the pitch on a Saturday afternoon and both successful outcomes were achieved with empathy and respect – the two themes that have characterised our approach to clients since day one.”
