Growth continues at Luton Airport as August pulls in 1.7m passengers
London Luton Airport (LLA) welcomed 1.7 million passengers last month, new figures show.
August delivered a 3.1% year-on-year increase in footfall and the airport’s 19th consecutive month of one million-plus passengers.
LLA said services were also in more demand than ever before, with an average of 93.4% seats sold on each flight.
Paphos, Tenerife and Venice were among the busiest routes.
LLA chief exec Nick Barton said: “The ease, speed and simplicity of travelling through LLA has contributed to a record summer at the airport, as well as the wide range of destinations we offer.”
Passengers were able to take advantage of LLA’s multi-million pound transformation programme this summer.
The £160m project included the creation of a larger redesigned terminal, new boarding pier and bigger security search area.
The redevelopment is due to complete later this year will increase LLA’s capacity to 18 million by 2020.and will allow LLA to meet the growing passenger demand for air travel.
CEO Nick Barton added: “Our transformation is nearly complete and will continue to support our growth.”
