A double celebration for Mickey Mouse and the Tyne Bridge
Newcastle’s iconic Tyne Bridge turned 90 in 2018, the same year that Disney favourite Mickey Mouse celebrates his 90th anniversary!
Mickey Mouse was created in 1928 by studio head Walt Disney and American animator and cartoonist Ub Iwerks, and became the universally adored mascot of the Walt Disney company; Mickey Mouse is the ‘True Original’ who is still as poplar and relevant to audiences 90 years later.
The Tyne Bridge, acknowledged as the original symbol of Tyneside, opened in 1928 after three years in the making. This 531ft, 7,112-tonne steel and granite structure has linked Newcastle upon Tyne and Gateshead for 90 years.
Worldwide celebrations are taking place this year to honour Mickey Mouse’s special anniversary, and here in the North East, Mickey will be starring in Disney On Ice presents Dream Big which plays at the Metro Radio Arena 2-7 October, when he’ll be joined by favourite Disney stars in a true icetravangaza!
