Affordable housing boost for South Tyneside as two developments complete
Two new affordable housing schemes in South Tyneside are preparing to welcome their first tenants.
Construction work on the 26 new homes on Wark Crescent and Salcombe Avenue in Jarrow is now complete, bringing a boost to the area’s affordable housing stock.
South Tyneside Housing Ventures Trust, the borough’s independent housing company, delivered the projects.
The £650k Wark Crescent development comprises six one- and two-bedroomed apartments. On Salcombe Avenue, the Trust created a mix of apartments, bungalows and houses.
South Tyneside Council’s Lead Member for Housing and Transport, Cllr Mark Walsh, said: “This is a real boost for the Jarrow area.
“These two developments have delivered attractive, high quality affordable housing to help meet local demand and build sustainable communities.”
He added: “I think anyone moving into these properties will be proud to call them home.”
Both schemes were backed by Homes England grants totalling £520k.
Brian Scott, company secretary of South Tyneside Housing Ventures Trust, commented: “The Trust was established in 2013 with the aim of building 400 new homes in its first five years.
“I’m pleased to say we are nearing that target and these two schemes have added to our portfolio of properties which offer tenants a very high standard of living.”
