Newcastle animal hospital invests £100k in new high-tech facilities

Westway Veterinary Group has invested £100k and created jobs at its Newcastle animal hospital.

The company took over two neighbouring retail units on West Road to increase the number of consultation rooms at the facility from five to eight.

The additional space will house some of the practice’s most up-to-date high-tech equipment, including a new ultrasound machine for detecting tumours and foreign bodies or diagnosing rare heart conditions.

Westway has also invested in an endoscope that removes foreign bodies swallowed by pets and can help diagnose conditions like colitis and inflammatory bowel disease.

To accommodate the new capacity, the group has recruited three extra vets.

Managing director Jason Atherton said: “We deal with emergency cases from all over the North East and having extra space will be invaluable to the service we provide, as well as the training we offer to our vets and nurses.

“Extra diagnostic space will allow us to have a second x-ray room, as well as enable us to provide more nurse clinics, including our new Prime of Life clinics, which gives clients specific care and support for elderly cats and dogs.”

Westway will use the largest consult room to offer specialist training for both graduates and experienced vets.

Speaking further, Jason said: “The expansion will not only expand the services we are able to provide here at Westway but also gives us the opportunity for further investment in the latest high-tech equipment.

“We want to ensure we provide the best available care and great services for clients and their pets.”

The project is the latest round of investment from Westway over the last three years, following on from the launch of a £100k cat unit.

The company has 21 branches in the North East.
