Newcastle Uni team to help businesses navigate ‘grand challenges’ of the future
Newcastle University Business School has appointed a new academic team to help companies adapt to future challenges in the way we work.
Big data, technological change and Britain’s increasingly diverse and ageing workforce could mean organisations have to become more flexible in the way they operate.
The uni’s new five-strong Leader Development and Organisation Futures team will aim to help businesses create an environment that encourages innovation and growth. It will design and deliver bespoke programmes, research and engagement activities
Each member has experience working with organisations on leadership, diversity and inclusivity, as well as organisational development, entrepreneurship, executive and team coaching and sustainability.
Dr Joanne James, joining from Northumbria University, will lead the team. She moved into academia after 17 years with consumer goods firm Procter & Gamble and tech giant IBM.
Dr James commented: “We would like to start a conversation about how work is changing and the challenges and opportunities this presents for us at a regional, national and global level.
“Our role is to enable organisations and individuals to navigate these grand challenges.”
Prof. Sharon Mavin, director of Newcastle University Business School, said: “I’m delighted to welcome Joanne and her team to the Business School.
“Their significant experience and understanding of leadership and organisational development further strengthens our world class expertise in Leading on Leadership and the Future of Work.”
