New girls’ football team nets cash boost from housebuilder
A new under-11 girls’ football team will start the season fully kitted out after receiving a donation from a regional housebuilder. Cambuslang Academy Girls under-11 girls’ football team was chosen by Persimmon Homes West Scotland to receive £1,000, through its monthly match-funded Community Champions scheme. The new under-11 girls’ team, part of the wider Cambuslang Football Academy, is the second team in the academy to receive support after the 2006 boys team received funding in 2017. Team manager at Cambuslang Academy, Michael Kite, said: “Our 2006 boys’ team received funding for new kit last year and it’s made a huge difference to their confidence. “I noticed that Persimmon Homes has started to build new homes just down the road at the new Castle Gardens development so I thought I would apply for funding. We are very grateful to be chosen a second time. “Our under-11 girls’ team launched just four weeks and we have seen numbers increase each week. Having the money to buy new kit for the girls will lift the team and let them know that the team has a future.” Girls looking to play for a team locally have often joined boys’ teams until the academy set up a dedicated all girls team. Doug Law, managing director at Persimmon Homes West Scotland, said: “We currently building at two developments in Cambuslang which could generate future players for the new team and the academy. “We would like to wish the under-11 girls’ team the very of luck as they embark on their first season. “Each month we receive many applicants and if people were unsuccessful in their Community Champions applications, we urge them to visit the Persimmon Homes website and to try again and hopefully they will become our next recipient.” Persimmon Homes West Scotland is currently building a range of two, three and four bedroom homes at the Castle Gardens development at Gilbertfield Road in Cambuslang.
