TAMWORTH COMMUNITY GROUP BACKED WITH FUNDING

A community group that mentors young people in Tamworth has received a cash injection from a leading regional housebuilder.

XLM Tamworth Mentoring Project has been backed with a donation of £1,000 from Persimmon Homes North Midlands. The funding comes courtesy of the housebuilder’s Community Champions scheme, which gives away up to £2,000 each month for good causes in the region.

Mentoring youngsters aged 10-18, XLM Tamworth Mentoring Project supports young people for around 13 months and has seen improvements in 88% of beneficiaries. The charity aims to tackle life issues that are affecting the young person’s academic achievement, attendance or mental health.

Gary Coleman, from the group, said: “We’re delighted to be selected by Persimmon Homes North Midlands as a Community Champion.

“This funding will enable us to expand the work that we are doing in primary schools, working with youngsters on issues such as bullying, low confidence and self-esteem and internet safety. We operate out of Coton Green Church on Comberford Road and welcome anyone to get in touch with us.”

Nationally, the housebuilder’s charitable scheme has raised more than £2million for good causes and community groups.

Nadine O’Dowd, sales director at Persimmon Homes North Midlands, said: “XLM Tamworth Mentoring Project plays a huge role in developing young people in the region and we are thrilled to be able to reward their hard-working team with a cash donation.

“This is exactly what our Community Champions scheme is all about, supporting good causes to make a positive change. We continue to call on more people to apply to our Community Champion scheme.”
