New homes and sports pitch for market town

More than 200 new homes are earmarked to be built in Newport in a scheme that will support hundreds of jobs and provide funding for a new sport’s pitch for the town’s secondary school. Persimmon Homes West Midlands has been given the greenlight to start work on the first phase, providing 102 homes in Audley Avenue which will support hundreds of jobs in the area. The overall scheme, which was given outline planning permission last year, will see 215 properties built, including affordable homes, and provide public open spaces and allotments. Under a Section 106 agreement, a new off-site sports pitch will be provided for Burton Borough School, an existing play area will be upgraded to a MUGA, and there will be a contribution to the Shukers Sports Pitch as well as financial contributions to both Newport Infants School and Burton Borough Secondary School. Persimmon Homes has already brought new homes to the town at its Meadow Grove development in Wellington Road, and at Orchard Grange, through its sister company Charles Church. Stephen Cleveley, director-in-charge of Persimmon Homes West Midlands, said: “Audley Avenue is a great site within Newport, close to local facilities, and we are excited about continuing our link with the town. “I think this development will offer the perfect mix of popular house styles and a good location. We are committed to Newport and playing a part in such a strong vibrant community and are delighted to have been able to support local organisations over the past few years.” Persimmon Homes has already given thousands of pounds to several organisations in the town through its Community Champions scheme, which sees two groups chosen every month to benefit from match-funded donation of up to £1,000. Local organisations that have benefited from the scheme include Newport Town FC, Moorfield School, Friends of Burton Borough Bands, Newport in Bloom, Newport First Responders and Newport St George’s Day Committee.
