Caulmert celebrates best ever turnover ahead of 10th year in business

A North Wales-based engineering, environmental, and planning consultancy is celebrating a record £2.8m turnover ahead of its 10th year in business.

Caulmert, set up in 2009 by co-founder and managing director Mike Caulfield, now boasts a 44-strong team working from five offices across the UK.

And the company is aiming to increase turnover to £3.5m during the next 12 months, with the long term plan to employ 250 people by 2024.

Caulmert has firmly established itself as a leading consultancy, working on a wide range of major development projects including nuclear and hydro power stations, science parks, waste and recycling facilities, and storage and distribution units. In addition, it has also worked on leisure, residential, commercial, and infrastructure schemes.

As well as working across the UK, Caulmert’s expertise is sought internationally, and the company has been appointed on projects in Sweden, Indonesia, and Ascension Island.

The consultancy has increased staff numbers by 20 per cent in the last 12 months, recruiting in all in disciplines in response to client requirements and increased development opportunities.

Recent commissions have included multi-disciplinary work for a number of housing associations, contracts for the upgrading of several railway stations throughout the network, and project management. The company’s ability to provide a wide range of in-house specialisms, including contaminated land, geotechnical engineering, hydrology and permitting.

Caulmert is also growing its presence in the south east, having launched a Maidstone office in November 2017.

And the employee-owned firm plans to extend its services into more sectors, including healthcare and leisure.

Mike said, “Our goal is to grow sustainably. Many of our projects lead to more work with the same organisation, as a result of excellent service and performance, and we are still being commissioned by the majority of our initial clients.

“It’s an exciting time for Caulmert, and it won’t be long before we break the 50-employees barrier.

“The quality of our staff is key to our success and we are implementing comprehensive training programmes for staff at all levels, to help all employees develop their skills, knowledge, and expertise.”

Mike added: “The next 12 months will also involve the finalisation of our strategy for the European market.”

Caulmert’s offices are in Bangor, St Asaph, Nottingham, Kent, and Altrincham.

Its expertise in a variety of planning, environmental and engineering projects is supported by the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes and modelling to meet PAS1192 level 2.
